Why I created the plant weather report

I’ve spent many hours fretting over my garden — how will my plants do once they were in the ground: Would a surprise frost nip my seedlings? Could an unexpected heat wave stress my peas? As gardeners, we know that weather can make or break a season, and keeping up with constantly changing forecasts feels overwhelming. I know that’s the case for me and my friends who also garden (sometimes you see them in my Instagram photos!).

That’s why I built the Plant Weather Report.

I have spent the last winter poring over code — making sure I had a every aspect of temperature and care covered for as many garden plants as I could think of. And not just for the US, but for the entire world in both Fahrenheit and Celsius. As a software developer with a lifetime of experience building stuff for the interwebs, I can say I am quite proud of it.

This report gives all of us clear, real-time insights into how upcoming temperature swings will affect the garden. I have color-coded daily highs and lows—highlighting what’s optimal, survivable, or potentially harmful—and I provide straightforward care tips when conditions go beyond safe ranges.

My goal is simple: to help gardeners like me and my friends (IRL or online!) feel more confident and less stressed. I hope that by providing reliable, easy-to-understand weather advice tailored to our gardens, we spend less time fretting and more time enjoying the growing for our friends and families.

It’s my gift to humanity (that’s us, the gardeners). 🙂
